PREMISE

Across the United States, millions of boys and girls play soccer. Some are good, some are bad, and a small percentage are extraordinary. However, even the extraordinary players rarely make a profession out of their skills. For most people, the joy of the game is enough. For some very competitive people, they will push themselves more and more until they achieve their ultimate goal of becoming a professional player or until they’ve exhausted all options of making their passion their career.


Best Striker offers a unique opportunity that most other competitions do not: a chance to be challenged, one on one, by the best amateur soccer players in their city, their state, their region, and possibly their country.


Additionally, Best Striker engages the community by offering a health fair, a soccer camp and motivational instruction before each round.

CONCEPT

 In efforts to find the best soccer player in each of six age groups (starting with Middle School and High School), players will compete in one on one, make it-take it games to 3.


The rounds will include a round robin portion, a quarter finals portion, a semi-finals portion, and a finals male and female portion, and then a final portion with the 

Best Female competing against the Best Male for the ultimate title of Best Striker.

1st 20 Middle Schools - 80 Competitors (2 Girls and 2 Boys/School)

1st 30 High Schools - 120 Competitors (2 Girls and 2 Boys/School)

Total Competitors = 200 (at most)


*Schools should send us their top 4 Competitors AND their wait list. If we have openings, we will admit students on the waitlist-first sent, first admitted.

Middle School: 6th-8th Grade (to 15 years old)

High School:  9th-12th Grade (to 18 years old)

Adult (Coming in the Summer 2025):  

Adult Open 1 = 18 years old - 30 years old

Adult Open 2 = 31 years old - 40 years old

Senior Open:  41 years old+

RULES

  1. All games will be played on quarter field or shorter.
  2. All games will be “make it, take it” games to 3.
  3. All games will be no longer than 8 minutes long.
  4. The Finals may be best of 3 games.
  5. “All Shots are worth only 1 point!” 
  6. Anyone can compete, but if they are an athlete under KHSAA, they cannot claim the prize money if they win. * However, there will be prizes equal to the cash money prizes (for instance, you could get the top-of-the-line shoes, soccer balls, etc.).

PRIZES

  1. The Best Striker of the High School Division will win $1,000 or prize equivalence. 
  2. The Best Striker of the Middle School Division will win $400 or prize equivalence.
  3. The Best Striker girl will go head to head against the Best Striker boy in each school group. The Best Striker girl and boy of each group will win $150/each or prize equivalence. “unless” they win “both” Best Striker for their gender and for the competition. In that case, they will just win the top prize. 

FOULS

  1. No flagrant fouls. *Those committing flagrant fouls will be eliminated from the competition.
  2. Flagrant Foul Definition: Any foul in which the person committing the foul assaults (uses their hand, fist, leg, or any part of their body to hurt or injure their opponent intentionally”). A flagrant foul is a foul in which there is enough force to leave a mark, bruise, or scratch on their opponent. A flagrant foul may appear like a grab, strike, push, or trip. A flagrant foul may be called by the floor referee who is officiating the game, or the victim of the foul. But the ultimate decision about the flagrant foul will be decided by the floor referee and/or the administrative committee from Jou Jou Presents. 
  3. A person will lose the ball to their opponent if they commit a Personal Foul.
  4. Personal Foul. A player shall not grab, hold, push, charge into, impede the progress of an opponent by extending a hand, arm, leg or knee or by bending the body into a position that is not normal. Contact that results in the re-routing of an opponent is a foul which must be called immediately. 
  5. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. *Those participating in unsportsmanlike conduct will be eliminated from the competition.
  6. Unsportsmanlike Conduct Definition: Any conduct by a competitor used to bully, belittle, or put down their opponent before, during, or after the competition. This behavior includes, but is not limited to cursing at, mocking, making fun of, or throwing the ball at or away or kicking the ball at or away from their opponent. *This does not refer to “challenging” each other. For example, a player saying something like, “Whatchu got?” is not considered “Unsportsmanlike”, but a player saying something like, “That’s why you suck!” is considered “Unsportsmanlike”. The ultimate decision about unsportsmanlike conduct will be decided by the field referee and/or the administrative committee from Jou Jou Presents. *If you are in doubt about the behavior, “just don’t do it”!

WAIVER

 In order to be eligible to compete in the Best Striker competition, players must complete a liability waiver, print the waiver, and bring it with them to give to the Jou Jou Presents staff before playing their first game. Jou Jou Presents is not responsible for any injuries which occur during the competition, whether the injury be a self-injury or whether that injury is incurred during competition, caused by an opponent.
